2027 Institutional Equity Division Business Control Unit Industrial Placement Program (Hong Kong)

Morgan Stanley’s Business Control Unit manages comprehensive risk for equity business, including non-market risk, regulatory compliance, counterparty risk, client documentation, and governance, advising internal and external clients on risk optimization and ensuring operational resilience and efficiency across the department.

Internship Programs

The Business Control Unit’s Internship Programs begin with a one-day orientation, where Industrial Placement Analysts are introduced to the Firm, its core businesses, and their fellow interns through a firmwide networking event. Interns then participate in division-specific training designed to build the core skills required for a successful internship experience.

The program features a Senior Management Speaker Series, desk teach-ins, cross-divisional networking opportunities, community service events, performance reviews, and a robust mentorship program.

Role and Responsibilities

Non-Market Risk Team

This role will cover Non-Market risk elements of the business, including operational, franchise and regulatory risk. The candidate will need to work with sales and trading personnel and internal stakeholders to ensure that the business is prosecuted in a manner that is well-controlled and in line with the Firm’s risk appetite.

Responsibilities will include:

• Ownership of business unit operational risk monitoring and remediation processes which entail actively identifying and remediating operational risks in business lifecycle and front to back processes,
• Managing risk reporting and escalation, and
• Engaging with IED personnel on ad hoc queries.

Counterparty Risk Team

The Counterparty Risk team supports how the Firm manages its trading relationships with clients, focusing on understanding client profiles, tracking exposures, and maintaining effective governance around client activity. Based within the Business Control Unit, the team works closely with Sales and Trading and partner functions to help ensure client interactions are aligned with internal standards.

Responsibilities will include:

• Assisting in analyzing client activity and exposure patterns across products,
• Supporting onboarding processes by coordinating documentation and engaging with internal teams,
• Preparing materials that provide insight into client-related developments,
• Collaborating with Sales & Trading, Risk, and Operations on day-to-day matters,
• Tracking the status of client reviews, approvals, and follow-ups, and
• Supporting ad hoc requests and ongoing team initiatives.
  

Qualifications and Skills

• Candidates must be in the penultimate year of a Bachelor's or Master's degree program, with an expected graduation date between September 2027 and June 2028
• A strong interest in finance and financial markets
• Analytical and adaptable, a strong multi-tasker, a collaborative team player, and possess a strong work ethic
• Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
• Confidence and ability to be a self-starter
  

Internship Period

• Industrial Placement Program: 6 months between January and July 2027
