Assistant General Counsel, APAC

What you’ll do

• Support the Head of Legal, APAC, in all matters pertaining to the APAC region
• Advise on matters of general corporate law, including drafting, reviewing and negotiating contracts as well as managing corporate governance matters, including local filings and board meetings
• Assist the HR team and wider employment Legal team on local employment and immigration matters, including reviewing and updating employment contracts for the APAC offices
• Assist and keep up to date on ongoing regulatory matters which affect Point72’s APAC offices (including licensing matters) and advise on the application of all relevant existing and new laws and regulations applicable to SFC, MAS and FSA regulated entities
• Review placement letters, confidentiality agreements and investor representation letters for the firm’s ECM desk and other business lines
• Provide ad-hoc advice on other legal matters (including matters relating to data protection laws) with respect to Point72’s APAC offices, including liaising with and arranging for external legal advice as appropriate
• Escalate any local issues promptly, provide regular reporting and updates of new laws, regulations, and guidelines in the APAC region and assist on projects responding to the implementation of such new laws, regulations and guidelines
• You will also interact regularly with external counterparts (particularly Point72’s external counsel and company secretaries for our APAC offices) on a variety of corporate, commercial, real estate, employment, and regulatory matters. You will work closely with colleagues in the firm’s internal legal and compliance teams, as well as other business functions across APAC and elsewhere in Point72’s network of offices, to ensure that the APAC offices’ employment, tax, corporate and regulatory advisory needs are appropriately met.

What’s required

• Proven academic and work achievement
• Qualified lawyer (preferably in a common law jurisdiction) with minimum of 2 years of post-qualification experience
• Experience at an international law firm and/or multi-strategy investment manager, ideally with an understanding of the funds industry and the Hong Kong legal and regulatory regime as it applies to fund managers (including the Securities and Futures Ordinance, Employment Ordinance and Companies Ordinance)
• Experience reviewing and negotiating contracts, with strong attention to detail and the tenacity to produce meticulous work product
• Demonstrable experience of quantitative, macro and equity long/short trading strategies, and any regulatory issues pertaining to them, will be helpful in this role
• Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to succinctly summarize complex issues for internal clients
• Strong interpersonal skills, being relationship-oriented and able to work as part of a team with both local and international stakeholders and the global legal function
• Self-motivated and highly organized, with the ability to juggle and prioritize many tasks under pressure and see each through to completion
• Adaptable and willing to accept varied assignments, and adept at seeking appropriate resources to resolve open items or obtain additional information as required
• Fluency in Mandarin and Cantonese preferred; demonstrable project management skills an advantage
